Pete Cole of Handsling Racing had just made the break in the E123′s Hillingdon Winter Series, when a crash right in front of him halted his progress. Luckily he had his Drift HD170 from www.actioncameras.co.uk rolling. Via @handsling

I have joined Handsling Racing for 2012.

Having spent last year building up my creative design business, Born75, and having a new baby (woo hoo!), I’ve been keen to get back into racing again this year to make the most of my 20 years riding experience in cross country MTB races and road races.

I was a key member of the Thames Tradesmen/Velo City team in the 90′s with Simon, Pete and Paul, and raced at every level – regional, national, world cup and world championships, so it’s going to be great being back in a team with those guys – It should be a lot of fun!

This winter I’ve been training to regain the form I had from a few years back that saw me consistently in the top 10 of every race for 4 years. Still a way to go but the intention is strongly there.

And of course, I’m also the mastermind behind the Handsling kit design…

You can follow the team here and also on www.handsling.blogspot.com
Happy 2012 everyone!

UPDATE: Entries on the day will close at 10.30, so make sure you get there in plenty of time. Start line is below.

After the success of last year’s club hill climb event, London Dynamo have decided to run this year’s as an open event, with the club championships run within it. The race will be on Saturday 17th October, climbing Leith Hill. The 11am start time will see the riders pit themselves against each other and against the mile-long climb – one of the longest climbs in the south-east of England, with an average of 8%.

First place will win a minimum £100 prize, increasing with entries; additional prizes from Prologue Bikes, with separate prizes for ladies, vets and juniors. Head quarters are based at Forest Green village hall; home-made cakes available for all after the race, plus a free bottle of For Goodness Shakes for every rider.

If you fancy yourself as a bit of a mountain goat then this is one of very few open hill climbs to offer entry on the line, which is £10. Alternatively you can enter in advance for £7 either online or by sending a cheque, payable to Will Hayter, 21 Noyna Road, Tooting Bec, London SW17 7PQ.

Here is a copy of some information from the 2009 Tour, written on the bike radar forum by Stani Kléber.

“The AFLD has published a report on the 2009 Tour de France, which has been sent to WADA, ASO and others. The ten page document has been leaked to French paper Le Monde.

Two independent medics were charged with monitoring the testing procedures and they point the finger at the UCI. “Always controlled as the last team in the morning and [Astana riders were ] allowed delays to show themselves to the testers” says the report. The UCI refused AFLD escorts during these tests and the report alledges the UCI was giving Astana riders at least 45 minutes advance notice of testing. No other team was dealt with in the same way.

“Such a tolerance, granted with no real reason, doesn’t allow, in the absence of escorts, a correct procedure, especially to ensure no manipulation happened” says the report.

The UCI also gave the AFLD details of all the teams and rider locations prior to the Tour, in order to effect out of control tests when the riders were on stage recces for example, but of all teams except… Astana.

The report goes on to list more bungling. For example giving riders notice before a stage that they’d be tested afterwards, storing samples in the boot of a car on a hot day instead of the requisite 4°C etc.”

A certain person is making his comeback race here, which will no doubt add some pressure to the other riders in the race. Making it a little bit ‘more’ than the usual casual start to the season. Cyclingnews.com has a preview of the race and will cover it daily. While the Sky sports coverage of the Tour begins tomorrow (Sunday). Each day of covered between sports 2 and 3.

The coverage is as follows:

Sunday: 7.30pm, Sky sports 2

Monday: 7.30pm, Sky sports 3

Tuesday: 6.30pm, Sky sports 2

Wednesday: 6.30pm, Sky sports 2

Thursday: 7.30pm, Sky sports 3

Friday: 6.00pm, Sky sports 2

Saturday: 5.30pm, Sky sports 2

I also found Sky is going to show Mountain Bike World, which is on Tuesday 7.30 pm on Sky sports 2.

Enjoy!
